Blessed are the poor in spirit...

A Placed Called Blessing by Trent is one of those books that you hear people say, "I could not put it down, I was hooked after the first page." And it is absolutely true! I am not a huge reader so even being involved in a blogging for books type of club is almost unheard of for me. It is a book like A Place Called Blessing that makes reading the ho-hum type books worth every word. I had read an article by Trent a couple of months ago also entitled The Blessing. It's message in line with this book by Trent encourages parents to adopt a blessing over each of their children in order for them to hear the words of blessing from the Word. I assumed that this book would be the same but I was so wrong. The Blessing is a book that paints the picture of why it is so important for parents to love their children enough to take time out to speak blessings over their lives. I believe this is one of the best books I have ever read!

Amazon.com: Your Profile: Reviews

I always tell my children how blessed they are to have so many incredible resources at their fingertips to help them achieve the life that God desires for them. After almost 40 years of marriage I can say that Love & Respect by Dr. Eggerichs is a book that I would have loved to read in my early years of marriage. I can attest that there are no other two elements to a marriage then a husband loving his wife and a wife respecting her husband. This book is a must read for any newlywed couple, any couple who might be experiencing difficulty or just wanting to recharge their understanding of one another. After reading this book I would recommend it to anyone who is married, thinking of getting married or like me, have children who are in the early years of marriage! I give it 4 stars!

Transformed by the Renewing of Your Mind

I honestly requested this book from Booksneeze to review because I had a friend who lived in a rural area for many years and had a tough time finding a good church to plug into. After reading this book I am convinced that the church in rural America is missing a key element to their ministry and that is relevency. O'Dell does an amazing job encouraging his readers - who will hopefully have an impact on the rural community at some point in their own ministries - to get the relevency of the 21st century to the rural communities of our nation. There is a harvest and a mission field right outside our front doors whether we live in rural America or suburban America and I believe this book can address the aspect of what leaders in either area can do for their congregants. The book encouraged me to find ways to become relevent to the people I serve in my own church. I recommend this book to anyone who serves in any church and especially to anyone who is considering planting a church in the country. (I received this book for review from Thomas Nelson Publisher's Booksneeze program.I was not asked to write a positive review)

Book for Quiet Time with Grandchildren

I have three young grandsons whom I have the priviledge of spending time with. I have loved using Jesus Calling by Sarah Young as a launch to talk about the Lord with them. Each day a new passage is written and full of the Word to speak over their lives. The devotions are easy to read and are sensible even for younger children. It is also appealing to the eye which can be very important to children. I would recommend this devotional for any young family with children or grandchildren. I received this book from Booksneeze to review in their blogging program. I was not expected to give a positive review.

Sarah's Garden - Not so Green-thumb!

Sarah's Garden by Kelly Long was an interesting account of a sweet Amish girl who fell in love. There, that is about as riveting of a story that I felt this book to be.

I had a difficult time getting into the storyline and an incredible irritation at trying to follow the language guide provided at the beginning of the book. Long did however put a great amount of research into making sure her readers felt a connection with the Amish people. That is a very positive aspect of this book. It provides a great picture of a culture of people who many of us do not realize even exist out side of what we hear.

As I said, the story line was difficult for me to engage and I felt the overall storyline to be as one would expect a Christian romance novel to read.

I give this book three stars for the determination of the author to bring it to us but I do not believe I will be running to the store to get the next Kelly Long novel.

The Portable Patriot!

The Portable Patriot is a wonderful resource for any Christian who is interested in understanding the history of the United States of America. Beginning with the Mayflower Compact, this little books takes you through bits and pieces of American history, giving glimpses into the lives of the founders and other great American figures. The books authors Joel L. Miller and Kristen Parrish did an incredible job putting together a collection of documentation which encapsulate the ideas of independence, virtue, humility, bravery, liberty and a reliance on God. During a time of our own present history making where liberty is calling us again to take a stand. This is a great start to understanding what the authors call the American soul. This book can be purchases at any fine retailer. I received this book from Booksneeze and was not told to write a positive review.

Bible For Dad

My first post as a blogger for Booksneeze. I am so excited to announce that my first choice was a Bible for my daughter's husband. I thought it would be the perfect gift for Father's Day and it WAS available!
Of course I have not read the Dad's Bible - The Father's Plan from cover to cover prior to writing this review but I did sit down and take some time to flip through the pages to get acquainted with what it will provide my son-in-law of four young children. The cover of this bible is very masculine and sturdy. It is written in the NCV which is a great resource bible to do cross reference from our preferred NKJV. Each Book of the Bible has a short introduction in order to set the historical, emotional and spiritual stage for that specific book. Throughout this entire version there are sections devoted to understanding and applying a Dad's authority in his home. Another feature that will benefit all Dad's is about Godly Character. This feature uses Galatians 5:22 and the Fruit of the Spirit to help men see the importance of their character. There are informative segments called Passing It On which gives advice to sharing your faith with your children, along with the articles about Building Your Children. These are two very important aspects of this Bible which would benefit any Dad. Dads in the Bible are profiles which help Dads learn valuable lessons from famous biblical fathers. Finally there is a question and answer section which gives even more helpful insight to sharing answers to tough questions about God and the Bible with children.
Overall this Bible is would be an awesome investment for any Dad. The commentator of this bible, Dr. Robert Wolgemuth, put it nicely, "Your children didn't arrive with an instruction manual to help you along...in this Dad's Bible you will find a resource that will help you with the challenges and pleasures of being God's man...and passing these amazing things on to your own kids."
I'm glad I chose this as my first review for Booksneeze!
